you need good reaction time so when you hear the whistle you
can dive off the blocks, you need to be able to dive in as quickly as possible.

you need to have power so you can use all your strength to go as fast as possible so you can get the quickest time possible.

you need coordination so you can do your stroke/kick properly and in time so you have perfect technique.

you need balance so then when you are on the starting blocks, you don't fall off. finding the balance of the water is also very important so you can minimise the drag of the water against you when swimming so you can go faster.

so then you perform your swimming strokes, they are performed more efficiently and you use up less energy doing them.

swimming involves lots of endurance, so if you have more muscular endurance, you can swim for longer and avoid fatigue.

speed is needed in swimming so you can swim faster and get quicker times.

in swimming, lots of muscles are important to make you be more strong and powerful as a swimmer, but your core is very important. your core keeps your body steady and streamlined in the water.

muscular strength is important in swimming because swimmers need to be able to apply lots of force on the water so they can have the best performance possible.

flexibility is needed in swimming so you can have a wider range of movement in your joints so then you only have to move your joints not your whole body. if you move your whole body, it will create more water resistance in the water, smoother movements mean you can go faster because there is less water resistance.
