Marxism

bourgeoise own means of economic production whilst proletariat only own their labour power

bourgeoise also own and control ideological states apparatuses that allow them to convince people that the system is either fair or impossible for them to change

Femenism

the belief that societies are patriarchal and that men have both interpersonal power and cultural power

different types of femenism: liberal femenism, marxist femenist and radical femenist

Conflict structuralism

shows how this divides society so powerful groups control society at the cost of less powerful groups

marxist see this in economical terms and femenist in patriarchal terms

Consensus structuralism

order and stability are created by how societies are organized

people are made to confrom through: goal mantainance, adaptation, inegration, latency

meanings of labels can change through social interaction; aren't set

over-socialization of the man; people aren't simply the product of their socialization

structuration

consideres both structure and action in considering relationship between individual and society

rules people use to guide their behaviour are formalized into routine ways of behaving towards each other

these rules become both externalized and also reflect back on us as they suggest or demand conformity
