Atmosphere
Climate Change
Greenhouse gases
the greenhouse gases are: carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapour. these gases absorb heat then emit it. some of it goes back to the planet but not much, until we add more.
-
the greenhouse effect is good. it keeps us alive. however, we are putting more greenhouse gases into our atmosphere which makes the earth warm up
-
Global Warming
As the level of greenhouse gases had increased, the longwave infrared radiation emitted by the earth is being trapped, causing the planet to heat up. The resulting rapid change in temperature can result in melting ice caps and extreme weather, both of which we are observing today.
Early atmosphere
Composition
Carbon dioxide
Carbon dioxide made up 90% of the earth's early atmosphere. As it is a greenhouse gas, it kept a lot of heat in, making the earth very hot.
Volcanoes
When the earth formed, it was a very volcanic place. These volcanoes released large amounts of carbon dioxide and steam and had small amounts of Methane and Ammonia. These gases formed the early atmosphere.
-
Current atmosphere
Composition: our current atmosphere is made out of 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% other gases (e.g water vapour, carbon dioxide and noble gases
