Thermoregulation - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Heat loss centre: When temperature of the blood flowing through the hypothalamus increases
      - Heat gain centre: When temperature of the blood flowing through the hypothalamus decreases
  - - - Vasodilation- Blood is forced through capillaries nearer to the surface of the skin
      - Sweating- Cause evaporation losing heat and cooling the blood below the surface
      - hair erector muscles- Relax and hairs lie flat to ensure a layer heat isn't trapped
    - - Vasoconstriction- Little blood flows through capillaries close to the skin so little heat is lost

      - May also increase their body temperatures through conduction by pressing their bodies against warm surfaces
      - Exothermic metabolic reactions may also heat their bodies for example contracting and vibrating muscles
    - - When they get too hot they need to prevent their core from getting to a temperature where their enzymes could denature
