Madhubani- bihar, also called mithila art, motifs are sun, moon, lotus, fish, tulsi, tortoise, birds, and characters from Ramayana.
Kalamkari - Andhra pradesh, motifs are characters from Ramayana and Mahabharat, paisleys, peacock, flowers, also depicts Buddhist art forms, done with using natural dyes and tamarind pen.
Warli - Maharashtra, motifs are crocked lines, dots, circles, triangles, humans, precarious equilibrium, depicts scenes of hunting, dancing, sowing and harvesting.
Pichwai - Rajasthan, motifs used are experiences of lord Krishna and natural colours are used.
Matani pachedi - Gujarat, motifs used are of goddesses and only two colours are used that is black and deep red.
Kali Ghat- West Bengal, motifs are hindu mytha religious themes, goddesses , durga and laxmi and Ramayana, colours are bright with bold outline.
Mural- Kerala, motifs are lord Krishna, peacock, flowers, shows family life and dramatic scenes. It is done on walls and ceilings. Colours are red, yellow ochre, green, blue, white and black.
Phads - Rajasthan, motifs used are pabuji and devnarayan, stories of kings, rulers, swords and army.
Thanjavur - Tamil Nadu, rich and vivid colors, simple iconic composition, glittering gold foils overlaid on delicate but extensive gesso work and inlay of glass beads and pieces or very rarely precious and semi-precious gems.
Dyeing and Weaving
Jamdani -West bengal, motifs are vibrant patterns, floral, paisleys, diamonds, lotus, fish, jhalar, polka and mughal motifs. Colours used are white, maroon, black, green, gold and silver.
Banarsi - varanasi, motifs used are intricate floral motifs, kalga and bel and jhallar, colours are red, pink, yellow, dark green, purple, ivory and royal blue.
Ikkat - gujarat , andhra pradesh and orissa, motifs used are geometrical patterns. Colours are red, yellow, green, white, and maroon.

Chanderi - madhya pradesh, motifs used are floral art, peacocks, geometric. It is known for its gold and silver zari.
Bomkai- katak, motifs used are floral and geometrical patterns and contrast colour borders, red green blue
Kanjeevarams- chennai, motifs used are temples of Kanchipuram, flowers, leaves, Rudraksh, swans and parrots. Colours are bright yellows & reds, oranges & blues, greens and red.
Paithani- Maharashtra, motifs used are parrots, peacocks and lotuses. Done with ornamental zari border and pallau.
Bandhani- Rajasthan, motifs used are haathi, paisleys, flowers, tiger, peacock, waves, sparrows, circles, swastik and the fabric is dyed at several points to produce patterns. Colours are yellow, blue, green and black.

Kasuti - Karnataka. Stitches are back, running cross and zig zag. Colours are orange, green, purple and red The motifs used are from temple architecture, the gopurams of South India and also lotus flower, raths and palanquins, bird motifs such as parrot, the peacock, the swan and the squirrel
Chikankari - Lucknow. White thread and fabric used are cool pastel shades of muslin and cotton. It comprises of 32 stitches- dots, jaali, running, murri , bakha etc
Kantha- Bengal. Stitches are simple running stitch with multicoloured threads. Motifs are water pots, conch shells, kalkas, trees, foliages, flowers, birds, elephants, chariot, human figures, fish etc.
Moti bharat, sindhi taropa and dhir bharat- Gujarat. Stitches are interlacing stitch . Motifs are floral and geometrical
Badla warg - Lucknow. Done with weaving threads of gold and silver
Phulkari - Punjab, all floral designs and karela bagh, gobhi bagh, dhaniya bagh and mirchi bagh. Colours are golden, yellow, red, crimson, orange, green, blue, pink

Bagh - madhya pradesh, motifs are typically geometric, paisley, or floral compositions design, dyed with vegetable colours of red and black over a white background.
Ajrakh- kutch , bold geometric repeats, in combinations of centre field and border designs. These symmetrical patterns are printed and dyed in natural red and black, with the white cloth resisted on a dark indigo blue background.
Bagru- Rajasthan, colours are black and yellow ochre/cream colour combinations. motifs are Flowers & Birds, Tendrils, Trellis or Jaal Designs, Geometrical motifs and human or animal figurative motifs.
Dabu - Rajasthan. Nature inspired motifs, Dyes like Kashish which is grey-brown, indigo which is blue and colors like yellow and red are derived from fruits like pomegranate; are used as natural dyes.
Sanganeri- Rajasthan, floral motifs lotus, water lily, narcissus, rose, poppy flower etc.
Batik - motifs are Floral patterns are common in Batik, decorating the textiles with curves, color and looser lines.
