Scatter Radiation - Coggle Diagram
Scatter Radiation
(3) air gap technique
-
-
-
downside: magnification of image, >patient dose, >geometric sharpness.
-
(4) anti-scatter grid
lead strips (0.05-0.07mm) separated by aluminium, reduces scatter and attenuation by 80-90%. Invented by Gustav-Bucky. Only photons travelling parallel to the septa will reach the image receptor
grid frequency- number of grid lines per cm. The higher the grid frequency the more scatter radiation is reduced
-
-
To reduce grid lines on the image, moving grids can be used which are mounted on a Potter-Bucky diaphragm
-
-
grids reduce scatter, improve image quality but cause more harm to the patient

(1) collimation
technique to reduce scatter by using a series of blades to shape the beam into a rectangular or square shape (wide/large electric beam= a lot of scatter, small beam= less scatter (collimator used))
