Mrs. V (protagonist)
Mrs.V is the Brooks' neighbor. She cares for Melody after school most days. Mrs. V has a very strong personality and pushes Melody to do the things most people would think that she can't do. Mrs. V pushes Melody to train for the Whiz Kids competition team and once she is on the team she helps Melody prepare for the competition.

Briliant
Despite having cerebral palsy, Melody is quite intelligent. Melody has a photographic memory. She is also brilliant in the aspect that 99% of the time she can get her point across of what she needs or wants without being able to use actual words.
Rose (antagonist)
Rose is the first person to become Melody's friend once Melody joins the general education classrooms. Rose is also on the Whiz Kids team with Melody. When the kids are on their way to the National competition, Rose is supposed to call Melody and let her know they had to leave early but she betrays Melody and decides to not call.
Rose was supposed to be Melody's friend but in the end when she had the opportunity to do the right thing by her friend she let peer pressure get the best of her and she betrays Melody, these flowers represent betrayal.

Kind
Melody is kind. She is kind because even after everything Rose and all the other kids on the Whiz Kids team did to her she still never acted cruel or malicous towards any of them.

Admirable
Melody is admirable because of how she composes herself. After everything she has been through in her life she never gives up. She may be upset sometimes about the cards she was given but for the most part she is super optimistic and continues to swing at every curveball thrown her way.
Caring
Melody is caing. She is caring because after everything that happened with the Whiz Kids tournament she was more concerned about Penny than anything else. She also always keeps her family and mind and how they feel.
Empathetic
Melody is empathetic. She is empathetic because no matter how bad her condition is she continues to try and not be a burden to everyone. She always keeps everyone else mind besides herself.
Hardworking
Melody is hardworking. She is Hardworking because when it came to the Whiz Kids team tryouts and competition all she did was practice. She never gave up once. She worked so hard up until the competition and then helped lead her team to victory despite all the nasty comments and doubt that was sent her way.
Penny (protagonist)
Penny is Melodys baby sister. When Penny was first born Melody was kind of jealous of all the things Penny could do that she couldn't. Over time Melody begins to love Penny more then anything. Penny was ran over by Mrs.Brooks car one day after Melody had been left behind during the Whiz Kids competiton but Penny was the only thiing and person Melody cared about.
