EARLY LIFE
was born a slave in South Carolina in 1813
when she was a child her mistress taught her how to read and write
she suffered from sexual harassment by
her owner
She escaped from him when he threatened to sell her two children
She hid for seven years in a small place under the roof of her grandmother's house
She eventually escaped to New York, where she was reunited with her two children.

in 1861 "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl" gets published
after publishing

housing for escaped slaves are organized
building schools to educate freed slaves
she continues her work with her daughter
a pseudonym is used, Linda Brent
LAST YEARS
She published her book and it made a great success
Then she returned to South and gave help to black refugees and freed children
She continued to help until she dies in 1897 in Washington DC
