Chapter 15
Homogenous vs Heterogenous and what to include in your rate law
Homogenous is all aqueous or all gaseous
Heterogenous is a mix of any 2 or more states of matter
Include Gaseous and Aqueous chemicals only
Useful but not a section stuff
Chateliers law
the system will always work to revers the actions taken
thermodynamics still have an effect here
if delta H > 1 then heat is also a reactant
if delta H < 1 then heat is also a product
Catalysts have no effect other than increasing forward and reverse reaction rates. No effect on Eq
Rate law
Kc = products/reactants
Kc > 1 reaction favors products
Kc < 1 reaction favors reactants
Eq is kc at equilibrium
if Kc is greater than Eq more reactants will form
if Kc is less that Eq more products will form
to get the reactions reverse just put 1/Kc
Equilibrium is when the reaction rate of both the forward and backwards reactions are equal
This does not mean that the concentrations are the same
