Skeletal System
-
Plane- surface is nearly flat or curved movement of sliding , twisting (wrist, ankles, ribs 2-7, sacroiliac joints)
Cartilaginous Joints- connected by hyaline or fibrocartaliage they also include the pubic symphysis and first rib with the sternum (hold pelvis body vertebrae, pubic symphysis)
Synovial Joints- free movement. have fluid filled called bursae that aid movement of tendons. (shoulder, hip joints)
Hinge- Surface of one bone or concave surface of another, flexion, extension movement ( elbow, phalanges joints)
Pivot- cylindrical surface of bone and articulates with ring bones and ligament movement of around the central axis ( between atlas and dens axis )
Saddle- surface have both concave and convex regions. movement mainly in in two planes (between carpal, metacarpal of thumb)
-
-
Lateral flexion- bending head, neck, trunk to the side

Osteoarthritis- Protective cartilage at ends of bones wears down ( symptoms: stiffness, bone spurs, loss of flexibility)
Osteogenesis Imperfecta- A genetic disorder that cause brittle bones. ( symptoms:easily bruised, limb deformity, easily fractured)
Osteosarcoma- Malignant bone tumor ( symptoms: bone fracture, bone pain, limited movement)
osteomyelitis- An infection in the bone (symptoms: chills, fever, lethargic)

Lamellae deposed around cylindrical tube called central canal that contain blood vessels, nerves
-
-
compact bone, osteocytes and extracellular matrix cells are organized into osteons
Central canals adjacent osteons interconnected by transverse perforating canals help osteons share blood supply
Compact bone, spongy bone made up of osteocytes and extracellular matrix lie within trabeculae
