Aspect 1- Christianity
4 marker- Christianity is worlds largest religion, over 2 billion members (33% world pop.) Christianity originated from Judaism it includes, Catholics, Protestants & Christian Orthodox. E.G of Christian indicator would be baptism
Typically Christian families are very large resulting in birthrate of Christians being very high. Partially due to Church being against contraception
Catholic priests are only males, you have to swear yourself to celibacy meaning you can't marry due to you being married to God.
In many Christian societies, cultural traditions/ celebrations are related to religion E.G: For Christmas we celebrate birth of Jesus
Many people during Christmas set up & decorate a Christmas tree & put a candle in the window inviting anyone looking for shelter to stay
Another example would be Easter where Christians give up something for 40 days to remember when Jesus had to fast for 40 days
On Good Friday, Christians aren't meant to eat meat due to it being the same day the Jesus was crucified
Many other religious ceremonies that indicate Christianity Culture like the holy confirmation where children are confirmed into Catholic Church
Aspect 3- Judaism
4 Marker- Judaism was founded over 4000 years ago in Caan, it has 18 million members, Jewish people believe in only one god, Yahwey.
Everyday Jewish people say the Shema in the morning and in the evening, they do this while wearing a Tefillin.
As well as this they also touch the Mezuzah which is found on there doorframe, this also contains the Shema
Every week they celebrate Sabbath, It begins on Friday at sunset and ends on Saturday at sunset. Sabbath is a day for rest and prayer
Havdalah is a ceremony that marks the end of Sabbath, this is when the father of the family lights a candle and says a blessing
The Kiddush is a meal on Sabbath, the father of the family blesses a cup of wine that is drank, he then blesses loafs of bread & sprinkles salt on them
The meal that they eat must be kosher meaning that is was prepared according to Jewish rules, it ends in prayer
In the Synagogue men & boys over thirteen cover their head with a kippah & women we are a scarf, this is to show their respect to God
Aspect- 2 Islam
4 Marker- Christianity acted as a model for the creation of Islam in the 17th century which was created by the prophet Mohammad. Mohammad was an Arab, born in Mecca in 570AD. Islam is the worlds fastest growing religion and has many cultural indicators.
When muslims pray the face their mats toward Mecca and pray facing towards it, due to it being Mohammad's birthplaces & the holiest city of Islam
The Hajj is another big cultural indicator for Islam, the Hajj is a demonstration of solidarity for Muslim's & is considered to be a mandatory religious duty.
During Hajj hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims go to Mecca for the week of Hajj, to perform rituals like walking counter-clockwise 7 times around the Kaba
In many Muslim states, the civil law is based off of the religious law called the Sharia law. E.G: Pakistan
Muslims can strictly only eat meat the is Halal, meaning that the animal was killed by its throat getting slit, Muslims can't eat pork, Muslims can't consume alcohol
Muslim women must cover the hair via a Hijab, they also aren't allowed vote, travel without a male & there education is limited
