France and Britain appeased Italy, which included the Hoare-Laval Pact, the US did not take direct action, and the LoG was undermined.
ITALIAN INVASION OF ALBANIA (7 APRIL 1939)
France and Britain condemned Italy. This was a turning point for Chamberlain - guaranteed Greece's borders along with Britain (steering away from appeasement).
ITALIAN EXPANSION (1940)
British pushed Italian forces from North Africa and occupied Crete, but were later pushed back by German forces (no appeasement).
GERMAN REARMAMENT
The Stresa Front was created by France, Britain and Italy, but soon collapsed. The Anglo-German Naval Pact continued appeasement.
REMILITARIZATION OF THE RHINELAND
It is seen as having been the last chance to stop Hitler without war. Nevertheless, Britain and France showed no opposition (not out of appeasement).
SPANISH CIVIL WAR
The Non-Intervention Pact was signed, but Germany, Italy, and the USSR sent aid to Spain, despite having signed the pact, discrediting the appeasement policies of France and Britain.
ANSCHLUSS
There was limited international response - Chamberlain only condemned, Italy appeased Germany, France was paralyzed, LoG was discredited.
GERMAN AGGRESSION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA
France did not keep their treaty promises and Britain did not think Czechoslovakia was worth fighting for. Chamberlain met with Hitler - appeased him, got a joint declaration.
HITLER'S DEMANDS REGARDING POLAND
Britain and France began military preparations and gave out guarantees (no appeasement). Negotiations with USSR were attempted but disputes occurred.
INVASION OF POLAND
Chamberlain issued an ultimatum to Germany but Germany did not reply. War was declared - no appeasement.
HITLER'S ACTIONS (1939 -1940)
Britain and France couldn't help Poland - Britain tried to ally with the US but US remained isolationist. Chamberlain resigned and Churchill came to power.
INVASION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA
Chamberlain's appeasement ended - he took a firmer stand against Hitler.
