Sequence of instruction
- Teach basic food groups and benefits of eating healthy
- Provide snacks from each of the food group
- Put students in group and have them each list the food groups
- Have students each explain one benefit of eating healthy
- Teach basics of reading nutrition label
- Pass out nutrition label and have students take turns reading them in groups
- Teach information about composition of a nutritious meal
- Pass out paper plates and have students fill in the spots with their choice of food
Objectives
Cognitive
Third graders, after learning the materials, will be able to list the major food groups five out of five times.
Third graders, as a group, will be able to name a variety of nutritious food options in three to five minutes.
Affective
Students, as a group, will be able to participate in reading a nutrition label and the ingredients, accurately 80% of the time
Students, in front of the class, will be able to present one change they need to make to their diet, at the end of the learning unit.
Psychomotor
Students, after learning the materials, will be able to explain one of the benefits of eating healthy in front the class.
Third graders, with help from the teacher, will be able to demonstrate using my plate to make a nutritious meal, in five minutes.
