Leo Frank
The Story of the Murder
Mary Phagan was murdered in the pencil factory where she worked, and Leo Frank was the superintendent of the factory. Jim Conley was a janitor at the pencil factory.
The Prosecution's Case
The prosecution used antisemetic tropes to explain why Frank was the murderer. They saw him as the outsider that represented the new wave of industrial life which was infiltrating their rural life.
Jewish men are claimed to be sexually deviant (antisemetic trope), was used against Frank in this case

The Lynching
After Governor Slaton reduced Frank's conviction to life in prison, a group of men called the Knights of Mary Phagan kidnapped him out of prison and lynched him. People flocked to see him hanging and even stamped on his face.

Large firms emerged from protestant ideals. They saw the practice of law as a way to pursue their religious destiny. They used discrete and covered up methods to discriminate. They used the cravath method (meritocracy) and tried to recruit only the elite. Jewish firms emerged as a response. There was a reverse bias effect as jewish lawyers became experts in areas WASP firms refused to work in (ex. litigation). Jewish firms worked hard and were able to compete with WASP firms. Eastern European jews were the 3rd wave of immigration in the early 1900s. They frequently worked in the garment industry and connected liberal politics to jewish american life. Kept a hold of their religious beliefs more than the other waves of immigration.
