Quizlet-Used with middle school students but could also be applied to other grades. Students use Quizlet to create flashcards for vocabulary terms that they then reveiw and study. Quizlet is great for terms that do require memorization. Quizlet also provides games for students to play to further enhance their vocabulary building.
Gimkit - Students can use this gamified review site to study and memorize the chapter vocabulary. In our classroom, the vocabulary is added on every chapter, so it grows throughout the year. This game can be played at the elementary, middle, and high school levels as there are several different game modes.
Spelling City- Students will be able to use this resource to practice their weekly spelling words through practice games and memorization games. This resource can be used for the elementary level students for phonics/spelling practice, memorization, and review.
Apply
iCivics - Often used in middle and high school classrooms. The site contains several games that allow students to apply their knowledge about the functions of the US government's three branches. For example, in "Executive Command," students are the President for the day where they have to veto bills, talk to the media, etc.
SplahLearn- Students will be able to apply their knowledge of Math concepts by completing different practice assignments/games. SplashLearn in regard to Math, allows teachers to assign standard based assignments based on the grade level. This resource is typically used by elementary level students.
NoRedInk-Used with middle school students but could be used with other grades as well. When students first enroll they are asked to choose their favorites from interests such as movies, music, books, TV shows, and video games. The students interests are then incorporated into the lesson practice. Students practice grammar and writing skills. Grammar and writing lessons are presented and explained. Students then apply what they've learned in different activities and quizzes.
Analyze
Popplet - This site allows students to easily create mind maps to make connections between different ideas and terms. They would then analyze these connections to explain their thinking. This site would be useful for all grade levels, the site even brags that it is easy enough for a kindergartner to use!
ReadWorks- Students will analyze different texts by selecting answers and constructing answers to open-ended questions. Students will need to refer back to the text in order to provide adequate answers to reading comprehension questions. This resource can be used by any grade, as long as the teacher assigns assignments/texts appropriate for the grade level.
Newsela-Used with middle school students but could be used with other grades as well. Newsela offers differentiated informative articles for students to analyze information. Teachers can assign the same article but at different lexile levels as needed. Students examine, organize, compare and contrast, and question texts while developing their reading and thinking skills.
Create
Touchcast - This tool is often used in middle and high school classrooms, but could be used in elementary with assistance from the teacher. Students are able to create newscasts using a "green screen" and other editing options. Through this creation students can collaborate to show their understanding of a topic as a summative assessment.
Read Write Think Trading Card Creator-Used with middle school students but could also be used with other grades. Students create trading cards that analyze characters in a story or novel. This provides the student with the opportunity to think deeply about how a character's thoughts and actions move the plot forward in a story or novel.
Renzulli- This is a resource that allows for project/problem based learning to be completed. After students take a survey when they first log onto the website. This survey will generate interests based on how students answer the questions. The resource will provide different project/problem based activities for the students to complete based on the students interests. Students will be able to create different projects based on their interests. This resource can be used as an extension resource for students to explore and develop their thoughts and ideas in a creative manner. This resource is for Pre-K to 12th grade.
Evaluate
Padlet - Padlet has several uses. One example is that it allows students to have discussions and comment on each other's posts. Students could be given a discussion question where they are required to defend their position and support it with evidence. They can even add their evidence of videos or websites right into the Padlet itself. This example would likely pertain to middle and high school classrooms.
Dotstorming- This is essentially a whiteboard app that students can add digital sticky notes to in order to collaborate with one another. This can be used as a discussion tool where students can argue, defend and support their thinking through their postings on the resource. This can be used by any grade but in regard to being used to perform evaluation level thinking, this would be more beneficial for higher grades.
Grammerly-Used for middle school but could be used with other grades as well. Grammerly helps support the writing process by allowing students to evaluate their own writing before submitting it for grading.
Understand
Nearpod - Often used in middle and high school classrooms. Students can participate in this interactive PowerPoint slide presentation site that includes different media options (VR, Videos, etc.). As students move through the slides, they are able to answer open-ended questions to explain their understanding of the material.
Khan Academy- This resource allows students to participate in answering questions based on educational videos. Students will show their understanding of content through specified questions. Any age group/grade level can utilize this resource. However, more support may be needed for the elementary level students.
Quizizz-used with middle school students but can be used with other grades as well. It can be used to teach standard based lessons and to review important grammar skills that allow students to recognize and explain important grammar topics. Lessons are interactive which adds a fun element for students.
