The animal cell - Coggle Diagram
The animal cell
Nucleus
Function: It contains all the DNA within the cell. The DNA is used as instruction for the cell to function.
-
Structure: It contains a nucleolus, nuclear envelope, and nuclear pores. It holds DNA.
If there was no nucleus, there would be no were to store DNA(instructions for how the cell should function). This would cause the cell to completely shutdown.
-
Mitichondria
Function: They provide the power to the cell. They use proteins and sugars to create chemical reactions which create chemical energy. This energy allows the cell to function properly.
Structure: Mitochondria are organelles within the cell that contain two membranes. These membranes are in the shape of folds within it.
Without mitochondria, there would be no energy produced for the cell. This would cause the cell to shut down.
Cytoplasm
-
-
Without Cytoplasm, non of the organelles would be properly suspended in the cell. This could de-organize the cell, and interrupt the transportation of lipids and proteins throughout the cell. This would cause the cell to shut down.
-
Golgi Apparatus
Function: Receives synthesized proteins sent from the ribosomes and begins sorting, packaging, and sending the proteins all over the cell.
-
Without the Golgi Apparatus, Proteins and lipids would not be distributed around the cell, not allowing the cells organelles to function properly. The cell would eventually shut down.
Ribosomes
Function: They translate messages sent from the nucleus into proteins which can be understood by the rest of the cell.
-
Without Ribosomes, messages sent from the nucleus would not be translated, and would not be understood by the rest of the cell. This would cause the cell to become nonfunctional and eventually shutdown.
Plasma membrane
Structure: Contains lipids (fats), contain proteins that are doorways in and out off the cell, and contain fluids.
Function: It creates a boundary between the interior and exterior of the cell by being semipermeable. It holds fluids and chemicals for the cell and allows the cell to communicate with other cells.
Without the Plasma Membrane, there would be no control of what gets in and out of the cell. All types of pathogens would be able to make it into the cell and overrun the Lysosomes. Certain cell material meant to be kept in the cell would be able to leave the cell. Every pathogen in nature would be able to infect a cell.
Lysosomes
Function: They get rid of any unwanted material inside of the cell. They use digestive enzymes to destroy material which is found inside the lysosomes.
-
If there were no Lysosomes, pathogens and other harmful material would be able to stay within the cell and potentially take over the cell either killing it or damaging it.
Centrals
Function: Before a cell divides, the centrioles make copies of the DNA. They will attach themselves to sets of DNA and pull them apart to create a new cell.
-
Without Centrals, a cell would not be able to divide and make a copy of itself. Once the cells lifespan is complete, no new cell will be regenerated. If this happened in ever cell, the body would shut down simply because it has run out of cells.
Vacuoles
-
-
If there were no Vacuoles, there might be to much excess cell material plus not enough support with the transportation of cell material causing the cell to be rundown and overpopulated by random cell material.
