Polysemy
Refers to the fact that a word or phrase can have a variety of related meanings. :
The Problems
1- Polysemous words appear in decontextualized sentences, since there is no strongly biasing linguistic context that can remove their ambiguity and specify their meanings.

The solution
The translator then has to resort to the context of situation to eliminate the ambiguity
2- polysemous words might give rise to problems even in the presence of the strongly biasing linguistic context, if the translator does not take the context into his consideration and stick to the core meaning of the word.
The solution
In order to resolve the ambiguity, the translator must take the context into consideration. Besides, the translator also has to realize that his translation is reasonable and that it makes sense.

1- The two senses “Mouth of a river” and “Mouth of an animal” are clearly related by the concepts of an opening from the interior of some solid mass to the outside, and of a place of issue at the end of some long narrow channel.
2- Run is another more complicated case of polysemy in which the word has more than one related sense.
Run for office.
-The water is running down the roof.
Run a computer program.

Monosemy
refers to a word having only one possible meaning in a language, and which cannot lead to ambiguity.
The Problems
1- words it may be applied to two distinct referents
Th Solution
In the case of ambiguous words, a distinction is usually made between POLYSEMY and HOMONYMY. This distinction is basically concerned with the closeness, or relatedness, of the sense of the ambiguous words.

Examples
a word like aunt is a monosemous item, even though it may be applied to two distinct referents: ‘father’s sister’ versus ‘mother’s sister’. Technically, we are dealing with one word and one sense here
2- Words that have no meaning in Arabic

use Arabization, which is the translation of technical terms into Arabic

This word was adopted synonymous with the word snapchat in English and it was agreed to retain the foreign pronunciation while adapting it to the Arabic morphological system.
3- Word family refers to a single word which takes different grammatical forms while retaining its core meaning.
