Hepatitis
-
-
Hepatitis A
-
The transmission of HAV occurs via fecal-oral route,
-
There is no chronic form of hepatitis A,
-
Hepatitis B
The transmission of HBV by blood transfusion, sex or drugs
HBV is larger, its genome is double-stranded
DNA, and it is enveloped.
-
Hepatitis C
-
The virus does not kill the infected cell, but it triggers an immuneinflammatory response that either clears the infection or slowly destroys the liver.
It is capable of rapid genetic variation to evade the immune
system. This characteristic, along with the fact that currently it can be cultured only very inefficiently, complicates the search for an effective vaccine.
Bilirubin Metabolism
Pre-Hepatic
Release hemoglobin, being break down to heme and globin.
-
Hepatic
Bilirubin is taken up into the hepatocyctes from the liver sinusoids by passive diffusion and receptor mediated endocytosis.
Post-Hepatic
After excretion, bile flows through the biliary ductal collecting system, may or may not be stored in the gallblader and enters the duodenum.
In the terminal ileum and colon, bilirubin is converted by bacterial enzyme and urobilinogen can be oxidated by flora normal to stercobilin, and then urobilinogen will come out with urine.
