Theodore Roosevelt (1901 - 1908)
Association with Japan
Helped negotiate an end between the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Created and convinced both sides to sign a peace treaty which ended the war
Created the "Gentlemen's Agreement"
This ended the previous segregation policy and allowed Japan to send some students to the United States
Created the Platt Amendment
This allowed America to have even more power in Cuba in where their military cannot be prevented and they have the right to intervene to preserve order in Cuba.
Panama Canal
The canal allowed for better connection between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean
This project needed 35,000 workers, and 5,000 of those workers died from disease or accidents when building the Canal. The canal allowed ships to cut 8,000 miles off of their journey.
Big Stick Diplomacy
This idea that Roosevelt believed in caused him to think that the United States needed to be powerful in order to assist other weaker nations to balance the power in during the Age of Imperialism

Guam was an exponentially good navy base and also acted as a harbor for the United State's Navy
Puerto Rico, Guam, and Philippians were all great Navy bases for the United States
Allowed for America to be able to trade with Asian Countries
Emilio Aguinaldo started the Filipino insurrection and used guerrilla warfare, which caused America to spend $400 million and 100,000 troops to stop this insurrection
The Open Door Policy was established in 1899
Was caused after the Boxer Rebellion; allowed countries like the United States to be able to trade with China
American businesses now had access to foreign markets that they needed
Woodrow Wilson (1913 - 1920)

His message was to promote human rights, national integrity and opportunity rather than try to conquest more land
In 1915, sent marines to Haiti in order to protect American Investments. This allowed for Wilson to and the government of Haiti to sign a agreement which gave the Untied States the right to control its financial and foreign affairs

Wilson preferred Venustiano Cararanza instead a Mexican Reformer
Supplied marines to help Carranza attain power. Also sent 10,000 troops on a "punitive expedition" in Mexico to chase Francisco Villa
America was chasing Villa but was unsuccessful. Used the troops from the chase and in Mexico and declared war on Germany due to concerns about World War I in Europe

Helped Maintain the Open Door Policy
This increased stability in Asia and Latin America and helped expand American trade through foreign policy and helped the economical issues the United States were facing
"Dollar Diplomacy"
Increased American investments in businesses and banks throughout Central America and the Caribbean
Invested in plantations, mines, oil wells, railways, and other material in that region
Dollar Diplomacy was a more financial way to solve economical issues rather than using military forces they invested in certain countries to produce new crops which allowed the Untied States to make money
