The point of the icons on the map was to help:
-better understand the economies, social, and cultural context
-show images of periods,
-flourished, along with landscapes, still life, and genre painting.

Use simple lines and minimalistic design to portray as quick as possible
with some icons are different colors and images depending what the option is
so they don't have to spend time thinking about what the icon could represent or mean.
