-
CHOICE

This creates a level of personal investment in the task and invites me to focus on an aspect of the subject that interests me.
-
Students are guided to see issues from different perspectives, using critical and creative thinking to develop their knowledge and collaboration and understanding to learn from other cultures, fostering respect and open-mindedness :
Through modeled attitudes and the learner profile attributes, students are invited to see the world as curious, compassionate, lifelong learners
Learning experiences are student centered, which means the learner is the heart of the PYP approach
THE LEARNING COMMUNITY
Each part of the learning community has an active role in the learning experience and contributes taking action that affect change
Teachers and students develop a relationship where ideas are heard and valued, and identity is appreciated and welcome. Teachers offer learning experiences that allow them to know their students well (interests, challenges, wonderings) and give timely and constructive feedback to foster inquiry and reflection
Students, teachers, learning support counselors and family members prioritize relationships and people as individuals with needs and shared commonalities
Take shared responsibility for the learning experiences as well as the health and well-being of every member
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Teachers are facilitators in the inquiry process and guide students to develop skills and attitudes that will help them thrive in the real world
Assessment is an ongoing process that allows gathering information and gives us a deeper understanding of our students' progress. It also helps children make connections and reflect on their learning. As witnesses of this process we can adapt our teaching to better suit the learning needs of the students. Collaboration with them is essential to maximize learning and make action happen!
Through the 6 transdisciplinary themes, teachers incorporate local and global issues across the curriculum and students can relate to the world beyond the school, engaging in meaningful inquiry
Teachers create learning environments where students feel safe to explore hands on activities, discover, collaborate and ask questions, where there is a free flow of movement and ideas and students opinions are valued and considered
Agency is promoted as a way to act with intention. This reinforces a culture of mutual respect, acknowledging students rights and responsibilities as they share their voice, choice and take ownership of their learning
