Parable of Wedding Banquet Pt. 2
Everyone is invited to the wedding banquet, but this doesn't mean they're free from the duty of fitting themselves to be the king's guests
The without garment was guilty of three faults
Having no sense of fitness of things
We tend to connect God and His presence to churches, forgetting that the whole earth is His temple and that His presence is everywhere
Repentance
Means transformation, a change of mind
A new attitude towards sin
Become ashamed and regretful of our sins
A new attitude towards oneself
Dying of the old ways, old lifestyle
Putting off your old self, crucifying the flesh with its desires
Birth of new ways, new lifestyle
Becoming a new, better version of yourself
A new attitude towards God
New awareness of the holiness of God
New recognition of the amazing and abundant grace and mercy of God
New view of God, live life fearing God
New way of how we do things- how we pray, worship, read the Bible
In the New Testament three verbs are used relating to repentance
Epistrepho
The idea of turning back (to God)
Metamelomai
The idea of regret
Metanoeo
Change of mind
We must be fit for good to see not only in churches, but everywhere else
Having no sense of what was going on
He came to the banquet with one thing in mind- to have a free meal
He had no intentions of joining the other parts of the banquet
It's impossible to share in an occasion in any real sense if we don't know what's actually going on
If you don't know what's going on, then the event won't mean anything to you. From your perspective, the event would just be noise
But if you do know what's going on, then you'll be able to immerse yourself in the event. The event becomes intelligible
Having no reverence
Reverence means being aware of whose presence we are in and act accordingly
When you respect someone, you consider them important and you'll act your best in their presence
When you don't respect someone, their presence will mean nothing to you and you won't feel like you have to do anything
He had no respect for the king
The Kingdom of God is open to everyone, but this doesn't mean you're released from the duty of fitting yourself to be God's children
This duty is no longer a legal duty but a duty born of love
When two people love each other they dress as best as possible when meeting each other, not because they have to but because they want to
