Formative
Definition: Formative Assessments are the process of gathering evidence of student learning. It monitors student learning and provides ongoing feedback that can be used to improve or alter instruction. These assessments are low stake, and have little to no grade value associated with them.

Definition: An assessment that provides in-depth details about a student's skills in a specific area that is administered at the beginning of a unit or lesson and is never formally graded
Entrance Ticket: Asking students what they know about a topic first that they will complete at the beginning of class to see what your students know about a specific topic before they are introduced to instruction
Word Test: An assessment given to students about words they already know which helps assess a students current knowledge on the topic
Performance
Definition: An assessment type that requires students to directly demonstrate what they know through a tasks rather than a traditional test or having them answer questions
Designing: Students learning about appropriate forces to move an object will design a toy which can move if the appropriate force is applied
Advertisement: Students learning about how visual images can be used a persuasion can create an advertisement for a company product that will be posted in a publication outlet. Students are tasked with selecting the product, audience and publication outlet to create their own advertisement.
