Summative
A Summative Assessment is a test given at the end of a unit or module to assess and evaluate what students have learned. These are usually graded and are worth a high percentage of the students' total grade for the semester, unit, or module.
Exams. Exams given at the end or middle of a term are used to assess ad examine what students have learned up to that point.
Module Tests. Module Tests are given at the end of a module and are used to assess ad examine what students have learned up to that point.
Diagnostic
Diagnostic Assessments are Pre-Assessments that are given before a module, unit, or at the beginning of the year that are used to determine student strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions. Teachers then use this data to adjust their delivery of the curriculum to fit student needs.
Running Records. Running Records are reading assessments where students read a leveled book and a teacher scores the students on prosidy, fluidity, capability, and errors and self corrections. their score is then used to adjust instruction for that student during reading lessons or small group pull outs.
PSI Test. The Primary Spelling Inventory Test is a test given to students to assess their spelling ability as well as their phonemic awareness. The student's score is then used to adjust how they receive phonics and spelling related instruction or support.
Performance
A Performance Assessment is a type of assessment where students must perform a task in leu of a test
Research Report. Students complete a report that dives deeper into the topic and uses the knowledge or skills that they learned from the unit or semester.
Project. Students will create a model, poster, presentation, etc. that showcases what they learned from the unit or semester.
Formative
A Formative Assessment is an assessment that is regularly given to students with the goal of adjusting lessons or teaching methods to improve student learning. These assessments are often not graded and are used mostly for data that the teacher can use to see how a class is doing with individual subjects.
The Traffic Light Response. At the end of a lesson students will come up to an anchor chart that has 3 sections like a traffic light. Green = I've got it!, Yellow = I need a little help, and Red = I don't understand a thing! Students will place a sticky note indicating which category they fall under and it allows a quick look at the current position of a class.
Entrance & Exit tickets. These are generally slips of paper or a journal entry that answer one or two short questions about the topic at hand. allowing for a quick check on student understanding
Interim/Benchmark
The Interim/Benchmark Assessments are big data collecting tests that are used to determine if students are on track to do well on other major assessments they will be given in the future.
The STAAR Test. The STAAR Test is a standardized state test for the state of Texas that's typically given at the end of the year and it's used to assess how prepared students are to move on to the next grade level.
The MOY Test. The Middle Of Year Test is given to students at the middle of the school year to measure data on student growth in the core subjects.
