Diagnostic
Definition: Process of gathering evidence of students learning, a way to provide feedback, and adjust instructions strategies to enhance achievement.
Definition: Periodic testing throughout the school year, and low-level/little or no feedback.

Summative
Definition: The purpose is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.
Definition: It is used so teachers can collect information about a student's strengths and weaknesses in a skill area.
Journals: Student will need to describe the setting in a folktale they read as a class.
Exit Ticket: Students will need to write 2 things they learned from the lesson and one question they may still have.
Spelling Test: Students will take weekly spelling test over new words they have learned that week.
STAAR: State standar testing given to students at the end of the year.
Essay: Can be assessed on previous learning of the unit.
Istation : These are test given at the end of units to assess skills on that specific unit.
Running Record This is a method of assessing a child's reading level that is specific to the Reading Recovery approach to remedial reading instruction.
Oral presentation debate: Students can orally debate a topic discussed in class.
Student work samples: These can be informal writing samples
High Frequency Sight Word lists: These are commonly used sight words that students are encouraged to memorize.
