Journal Entry/Brain Dump: At the end of a lesson (daily or weekly) students will write about what they learned in one sentence, what they found interesting, and/or what they still find confusing. A variety of questions can be used (or just prompt students to write about what has been taught and how they feel about it) but the answers that students provide can provide evidence on whether a lesson needs to be re-taught or accelerated based on their feedback.
Turn and Talk: Students are given a meaningful prompt/question/or topic related to the lesson and they talk with a partner about it. Teacher listens in to check for student understanding and uses the evidence to gear the lesson in a specific direction based on student feedback.
