Formative assessments
A formative assessment is a way to assess students and get feedback to use for modifying and adjusting instruction. They should not be used for grading, just to gauge student understanding.
Concept maps: students create a concept map based on the information they learned in class that day.
DLIQ Exit ticket: studntes will answer 4 questions - What did you DO in class today? What did you Learn in class today? What did you find INTERSTING in class today? What Questions do you have over todays lesson?
Summative assessment
Benchamark/ Interim
Used to evaluate student learning at the end of a unit, module, term, or year. hold high stakes, and should hold the highest grade value over the particular topic.
Project: students individually complete a project over a topic
Exam: students complete an exam to asses thier knowledge over.a topic that has been learned start to finish, over a period of time.
Used to see where studnts are in their learning and determins if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessmnets.
ISIP testing: students complete an electronic reading test that is administered at the beginning of each month. The program tracks the growth of the students and also informs the teacher if a student's score is dropping in an area.
STAAR benchmarks: Practice exams students take 1-2 times thoughout a school year to show what students have learned, and what they still need work on before the official exam is administered at the end of the school year.
Diagnostic
Used as a form of pre-assessments to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses as well as prior misconceptions. This form of assessment helps teachers plan instruction to meet students' needs.
Pre-test: administered before the teacher begins teaching a topic. Used to gauge what students will need more assistance, and what students already know to adjust instruction if needed
KWL chart: Students tell what they know and want to know about a topic. After the lesson, the students say what they learned.
Preformance assessment
Assessment that is an assignment that requires students to preform a task rather than answer questions.
Presentations: students create a presentation to give to the class on a topic.
Acting: students act out real-life scenarios or reenact a story to see if the students understand what was taught and or read
