Summative
Definition- Gathering evidence of learning to adjust instruction and get feedback from students.These types of assessments are low stakes.
Fist to Five: Students are able to show a teacher if they understand a concept by easily showing a number. Fist means I don't understand and need help. Five means I could teach this.
Write Your Own Quiz Question- Students write 2 quiz questions they they could answer based on what they learned. Great way to get them thinking and teacher could even pull some questions.

Formative
CFA: This assess' students in what they have learned for a specific module to get them ready for District Assessments/STAAR. For example, after finishing a module on informative text. Students will take a 10 question CFA.
STAAR: This state mandated test assess students knowledge, proficiency, and skills that correspond to the standards that they are supposed to have learned.
Definition: Assess student learning at the end of a module, high quality assessments, and collects data on what student has learned.
Interim/Benchmark
District Assessments: District Assessments allow teacher and students to know where learning gaps are, predicts scores for state testing, and allows the teacher to make instructional decisions.

Definition- Tests that happen throughout the year. These are more formal style and provide little to no feedback.
