Diagnostics
AR Guide: Students are able to use this as a pre-assessment to check off yes or no whether they have already learned material or understand what the material is. Teacher can also use this to see their previous knowledge of content before beginning a lesson.
Self-Assessment: Students are able to self access their learning so that they can make their own judgment of what kind of learning best suites them. This is great to use with students so that they can gain better understanding of their own struggles.
Formative
Definition: On going learning that teachers assist students with to continue learning and understanding of a content. Usually not used for grading but to help students show their understanding of what they have learned in the classroom so the teacher can assist them in more help if needed.
Exit Ticket: Teacher gives a paper at the end of class with short answer questions for the students to answer. This gives the students time to show their knowledge with the content learned that day and allows the teacher to see who is understanding the content and who needs further instruction.
Kahoot: Is a learning game that is used in the classroom. It is a quiz given, that students try to answer the most questions correct to be competitive against the other students in the class. This can help the teacher see who is understanding the content and who is not.
Interim/benchmark
Definition: Used to assess students understanding learned from the past school year. Students are required to meet a certain expectation required by the given test to show they are understanding the content being taught.
Spelling Test: This can be assessed as a benchmark because it is given to the students to assess their knowledge of the words given. Teachers can use this as a standard for what students should know.
STAAR: Administered at the end of the year to show students understanding of what they have learned through out the year. This is required by the state and is given a set standard that students should reach after each school year.
Summative
Definition: An Assessment that is an overall grade used to show a students understanding over a long period of time such as an end of a semester or unit.
Midterm: Exam given to the students to show their knowledge over content learned in a unit or semester.
Final Project: Way to show students understanding in a creative way. Shows how each student process information and is able to display their understanding of content.
Performance
Definition: Is a way for teachers to assess students knowledge by using open-ended assessments. This allows for the teacher to see exactly the students knowledge over the information that is being taught or has been taught.
Open-Ended Questions: Allows for students to show their complete knowledge and understanding of the content.
Project: Allows students to give their full ability and understanding of content that has been taught so the teacher can fully understand what a student knows and how they understand and learn the content.
Definition: Used as a pre-assessment to access students knowledge over different contents. Teachers can use this to assess their students for a better understanding of where their students are at with their progress.
