Formative
Definition : an assessment used to show students understanding of the lesson in order to determine if adjustments need to be made to help students learn the lesson. These are usually low stakes assignments that are worth little no points.
One-pager: students will construct a one pager based off a text read in class that is colored and answers the questions given

Interim/benchmark
Definition : assessments given periodically throughout the school year to evaluate the students knowledge and skills that correlate to long term goals
MAP: an adaptive achievement and growth test that measures student progress and growth periodically and is individualized for each student
iStation: a comprehensive e-learning program used to evaluate students knowledge periodically throughout the year
Summative
Definition: an assessment used to evaluate students learning, acquired skills, and achievements at the end of an instructional period. These are usually high stakes tests that are worth a large sum of students grade.
Unit assessment: students will answer 20 questions that covers everything they have learned within the unit
Project: students will complete a magazine project that incorporates everything they have learned from the unit
Performance
Definition: assessment that requires the student to directly show what they know and can do through open ended tasks
Short response: students will answer a question in 4 to 5 sentences based off the text read in class

Definition : a device used to gather information about a students strengths and weaknesses in a specific skill set
Running Record: a method to assess a students reading level by capturing how well a student reads and their reading behaviors
