Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim or Benchmark Assessments are given to ultimately compare student learning and knowledge against standards. This allows teachers to gain an understanding of what their students know currently.
Statewide Exams/STAAR: A standardized test required by Texas in which students complete to demonstrate if they have met their current grade-level standards
IStation Test: Students are asked to complete an IStation test once a month for teachers to see where they are in their learning
Performance
Definition: Performance Assessments are given so students can demonstrate what they know in an abstract way, rather than with questions and exams.
Portfolio: Students are asked to create a portfolio using various projects that they have completed over a specific topic, including artwork or writings
Journal Entry: Students are asked to complete write a reflection piece in their journal summarizing their learning of a specific topic
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are given to determine a student's prior knowledge before beginning a unit or lesson. This allows the teacher to gain an understanding of their student's strengths and weaknesses to better meet their needs.
Where to Start Word Test: Students are presented with a list of sight words for the grade-level below them to see what reading level they are on
Letter Test: Students are presented with individually typed letters. They will be asked to state the name of the letter and the sound that it makes
Formative
Definition: Formative Assessments are given to assess student learning by providing feedback to determine what needs to be adjusted within the current and future instruction.
Class Discussion: The students will be given questions regarding the topic that they are currently learning. The students will discuss their thoughts on the answers of the questions as a class.
Exit Ticket/Reflection: The students will be given a piece of paper at the end of class, with which they will write a reflection of what they learned from the lesson of the day
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessments are given to assess student learning at the end of a unit to see what knowledge they have gained.
End-of-Unit Exam: The students will begin a multiple-choice question exam after they have finished learning the topic for a unit.
Final Project: The students will complete a project over a specific topic discussed during a unit. They will complete this project after the unit is finished.
