Diagnostic

Summative
Definition: Summative assessment occurs at the end of the learning process and is typically graded and high stakes. The purpose of summative assessments is to provide evidence of the degree to which a student shows mastery.
Final/Midterm Exam: A test given at the end of a period/ semester/ 9 weeks/ etc. to determine whether the student has adequately learned the material covered in that period.
Final Project: The opportunity to demonstrate application and mastery of the skills you’ve been learning all semester (or even all year!) long through mediums such as PowerPoint, posters, models, etc.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by students to improve their learning. They are generally low stakes with little to no grade point value.

SAT/ ACT Test: Both the SAT and the ACT are standardized tests that help colleges and universities determine how prepared you are, as a student, to take college-level coursework.
TSI Test: The TSI Assessments measure college readiness in reading, writing, and math. The scores are used for college placement purposes.
