Consequences of the TOV on Germany
- Political violence, especially from the right wing (Munich Putsch, Kapp Putsch)
- Government viewed as traitors for signing the treaty (November criminals)
- Conflict in the Ruhr due to Germany claiming that it was not able to pay reparations so the French and the Belgian entered the Ruhr and took what was owed in raw materials and goods (1923)
- Hyperinflation happened due to the invasion of the Ruhr, as the German government ordered workers to go on strike so they were not producing anything for the French to take - this resulted in Germany having no goods to trade and no money to buy things with, so they started mass printing extra money, which meant that there was more money than goods so prices shot up.
- ALL THIS MEANT THAT EXTREMIST PARTIES SUCH AS THE NAZI PARTY WAS ABLE TO EXPLOIT GERMAN'S STRONG FEELINGS TOWARDS THE TREATY
WHAT WERE THE ALLIES TRYING TO ACHIEVE?
- They wanted Turkey's time as a great power to end
- Many of it's people wanted independance so they wanted to establish new states
- Italy wanted Turkish territory as a reward for supporting the allies in WW1
- The Tripartite Treaty was signed in 1920 in secret between France, Britain and Italy to protect eachother's commercial interests.
