Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Benchmark testing is used to assess children on grade level to see where they are compared to other children in the grade. It can used to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses.
STAAR: To measure what students have learned and how they are able to apply their skills and knowledge as specified in TEKS
Map Tests: Improve learning for all students and assist them in making informed decisions that promote individual academic growth
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments help teachers identify what students know and can do in different contents to support their learning. These assessments can help teachers determine what students understand in order to build on the students' strengths and address specific needs.
Unit Pretests: Taken by students before a new unit to find out what the students need more instruction on and what they already know

Performance
Definition: Performance assessments have students directly demonstrate what they know and are able to do through open-ended tasks.
Projects: Students design, develop, and construct a solutions to a problem or question that encourages learning and being actively engaged
Portfolios: Collection of student work; student activities, accomplishments, or achievements; over a specific time period of the curriculum.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments occur during the end of instruction which is used to recognize student learning accomplishment. It also determines if students have met the learning goal but also benefits students who did not give remedial activities to support and ensure they do meet the learning goal.
End of Unit Exam: Assess students understanding and knowledge of learned material over a period of time

Definition: Formative assessments occur during instruction that is used to guide the instruction if needed based on the students needs. It is given to assess students' progress toward the learning objectives.
