Hypertension: this is a result of increased salt intake which results in volume expansion. Also, the RAAS becomes impaired and the sympathetic nervous system becomes increased. These changes lead to an increase in total peripheral resistance and increased afterload. Risk factors include diabetes, unhealthy diet, physically inactive, and tobacco use.
Congestive heart failure:a complication of arteriosclerotic heart disease, followed by hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and cardiomyopathy. It can't pump blood as efficiently as it should because of the blockage. This causes fluid buildup in the feet, arms, lungs, and other organs. Signs and symptoms include crackles on auscultation, shortness of breath, arrhythmias, edema, and dyspnea on exertion.
