Summative
Definition: Summative assessments occur after a large chunk of learning occurs. They are high stakes and they evaluate student knowledge/understanding after a unit or group of lessons. They are worth a lot in terms of points/grading because they aim to see how well you have mastered the content after a longer period of learning.
Unit test: An assessment which tests student knowledge after a unit. Units typically last a few weeks with many formative assessments along the way. The end of unit test helps the teacher gage the student's knowledge after all lessons over the unit are over.
Final Project: A final project Is a great example of a summative assessment as It allows students to showcase their learning In their own way. This Is also usually done after a unit Is complete, and the projects showcase the content within that unit. These can be done Individually, with a partner and even with a group.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments require students to demonstrate what they know through a task, Instead of a traditional test.
Student Work Portfolio: A portfolio is a culmination of materials and projects that the student can show to demonstrate understanding.
Analysis Essay: An essay where the student demonstrates understanding and can make an analysis on the topic and support it.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments target Individual student growth as they test prior to the learning of new material. These assessments help teachers see the weaknesses and strengths students have before a lesson. This helps teachers shape curriculum and lessons to best meet the needs of the students.
Where To Start Word Test: WTSWT tests students knowledge on common words, such as sight words. The test has different levels for different leveled readers. This helps the teacher see how they are with common words.

Formative
Definition: Formative assessments gather evidence of student learning, provide feedback, and help teachers adjust content and instructional practices to help the students grow and understand material. These assessments are low stake and should not cause stress on the student. These assessments are to better help and assist the student throughout the learning process.
Kahoot: Students will play this Interactive game at the end of the class to check their understanding and knowledge over the content which was taught and discussed during class that day. The teacher Is able to see how each player Is doing as well as keep note of who understands the material and who might need additional support. This is a fun and interactive tool which could be made up of 5-10 questions for the students to answer before they leave for the day.
Exit ticket: Students can receive a post-it note or piece of paper where they can rank their understanding of the topics learned in class from 0-5 (0 being very little and 5 being mastery). Students can also answer questions asked by the teacher over the content, and overall students can express how they feel and what they think they could use additional help on.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments help gauge student knowledge and understanding as a whole. These assessments help teachers and administrators know If the student Is on track In their learning.
STAAR: State testing is a great example of this type of assessment as the state testing compares student scores to other scores in the district as well as the state.
MAP: MAP testing compares student scores from the beginning of the year to the previous year, specifically in math and reading.
