NERVOUS SYSTEM
- is a master communicating system of body.
- Cells communicate via Electrical and Chemical signals.
Central Nervous System (CNS)
- Brain and Spinal Cord
- Integrative and control centers
Somatic Nervous System
- Motor nerve fibers conduct impulses from CNS to skeletal muscle.
Autonomic Nervous Sytem
- Consists of visceral motor nerve fibers
- Regulates smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and glands
Two functional subdivisions
(Sympathetic,Parasympathetic)
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- Consists mainly of nerves that extend from brain and spinal cord
(Cranial Nerves, Spinal Nerves, Ganglia)
2 Major Neuroglia in PNS
Satellite Cells
- Helps in terms of neuronial functioning located in PNS
Schwann Cells
- Surround PS fibers and form myelin sheaths in thicker fibers
Astrocytes
- Most abundant, versatile and branched glial cells.
Ependymal Cells
- Range in shape from squamous and columnar
Microglial Cells
- Small, thorny processes that touch and monitor neurons
Obligodendrocytes
- Branched cells
-Processes wrap CNS nerve fibers, forming myelin sheaths.

Neuroglia (glial cells)
- small cells that surround delicate neurons.
Neurons (nerve cells)
- Excitable cells that transmit electrical signals.
