Formative Assessments

Definition: they compare previous results with a second try, motivating students to set goals and improve their skills.
How is it beneficial to the student: the feedback given after an ipsative assessment will help motivate the students and encourage them to improve in their grades.
Diagnostic Assessments

How is it beneficial to the student: the student is able to reflect on what they know already to further their understanding of what is being taught.
Summative Assessment

How is it beneficial to the student: it is used to track student progress. If students don't understand the current unit, the teacher can adjust the way of teaching for the next unit.
