Assessments
Formative
Definition: This assessment is meant for teachers to know where their students are at during a unit. This is so the students can receive feedback immediately.
Example 1: Exit Ticket/Bell Ringer: This is so the students have a quick reminder about what they learned about in class or the day before.
Example 2: Just a plain ole quiz: Even a simple quiz is a formative assessment. It tests the knowledge of the students about a topic in a unit and gives them feedback shortly after.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: This assessment style is used to see if students are on track in their learning in school. It evaluates the academic competency of the selected students.
Example 1: STAAR: In Texas, the students have to take a test called the STAAR test to see if they are on par with what they should know.
Example 2: Pacer test: We all remember the days of running the fitness gram pacer test. Well, that was a benchmark to see if you could keep up with the students at that age level.
Summative
Definition: An easy way to remember summative assessments is it sums up everything in a unit. This is where the students will use everything that they have learned to show what they know.
Example 1: Final Exam: Even college students take finals, It is and end-of-year test that sums up the knowledge taught and learned all semester long.
Example 2: Podcast: This can be where students have to do a podcast. Have them do a topic and talk about it. Bring in a friend to do it as well.

Diagnostic
Definition: This assessment is to see where the students are at on a topic. This can be like a pre-test before studying for a topic. We need to understand student knowledge and engagement
Example 1: Mind map: This is where the student just maps on a piece of paper what they think of a topic being discussed
Example 2: Journal Entries: This means the student can write in a journal and the teacher can take it for a grade at the end of the year for a total grade or each week the students submit the reflection of what they did.
