Juneteenth
June 19th 1865 federal troops marched to Texas to free the slaves that were still being enslaved even though the Emancipation Proclamation had been passed. This is considered to be the end of slavery in the United States
End of Reconstruction
During the national election of 1876 congressional reconstruction came to an end due to the southern democrats coming back into power. Democrats in Congress would agree to accept Republican Rutherford Hayes if federal troops pulled out of the south. After Republican leaders agreed, Hayes was elected and reconstruction ended.
