The Penelakut (kuper) island residential school was a place where many students were sent. 107 of 246 students had died, several students were abused physically and mentally, raped, stripped of their culture and treated with disrespect. This school was operated from 1889-1975. The reason for closing was because the federal government had been alarmed of the cruel things being done at this school.
