evaluation of caregiver infant interactions

reciprocity

Reciprocity influences the child’s physical, social and cognitive development. It becomes the basis for development of basic trust or mistrust, and shapes how the child will relate to the world, learn, and form relationships throughout life.

Jaffe et al. said that from birth, babies move in a rhythm when interacting with an adult almost as if they were taking turns as people do when having a conversation.

getting to know them and start a bond/relationship at infant and hopefully carry it on into adult life. hoping that as life goes on changes might happen/ relationships between.

interactional synchrony

limitation

Many studies involving observation of interactions between mothers and infants have shown the same patterns of interaction. However, what is being observed is merely hand movements or changes in expression. It is extremely difficult to be certain, based on these observations, what is taking place from the infant’s perspective. Is, for example, the infants imitation of adult signals conscious and deliberate?

not giving an answer when asking it or able to reply, just guessing on what they might want and hope they might give a better results at the end

babies mouths are in fairly constant movement and the tested expression e.g tongue out occur frequently, this makes it difficult to distinguish between general activity and specific behaviours

other studies have not been able to replicate the findings from meltzof and moore problem= inconsistent findings but, there could be differences in method which can account for this.
