Although Tom acts immaturely for a good chunk of the book, he does shape-up and becomes mature when it comes to solving and admitting to who committed the murder
By doing so, Tom Sawyer was able to develop through the course of the story-therefore showcasing character development; For a 12-year-old, Sawyer does what any other kid does after solving a murder- he returns to his childish activities
Has the character learned anything? If so, what was it? Was it a good lesson?
1.The truth is important. After Tom learns the identity of the killer, he struggles with this newfound knowledge. Should he tell someone? Should he confront the killer himself? Should he just ignore it all together and get back to his pretend-play? These were thoughts that swirled in Sawyer's mind. However, after knowing the truth for so long, his guilt had only grown. This helped Tom reach his solution of letting an adult know about the truth of the murder- easing Tom's conscience, and providing relief to everyone else. It also cleared the name of an innocent person.
