Assessments
Formative
Definition: formative assessment is often and during course instruction. There is high opportunity for improving student learning and there is high amounts of feedback and evidence of learning. there can be Informal and formal formative assessments.
Formal-
Homework: can be used to see if kids grasped a lesson.
Classroom response systems: Padlet and other resources can be used as a bellringer or check in system to see what students know.
Informal-
Observations: Making observations of student progress in class.
Questioning: Asking questions in class to students
Summative
Definition: assesses a large chunk of learning, almost always needs to be graded and has a low opportunity to improve student learning.
Final Projects/ Final Papers: This is a cumulative assessment of knowledge and can be done in almost any content area.
Research Projects: Usually done as a way to assess the ability for kids to put together their knowledge of the content.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: The timeline and frequency of Interim and Benchmark falls into Pre-determine points of time and grading is necessary. The opportunity for improving student learning can be medium or high and the purpose is for adjusting instruction.
Report cards and progress reports: used to measure the students performance for a set period of time. Usually 3/6/ or 9 weeks
