Definition: Formative assessments are assessments that are done during instruction. These are helpful in monitoring and adjusting instruction. These are usually low stakes, meaning they usually aren't graded.

Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are usually given at the end of a unit. These are used to assess how much students learned in a unit. These are usually high stakes, meaning they count for a large grade.

Definition: A type of assessment in which students must perform a certain task, unlike regular tests and/or answering questions.

Definition: These are used to determine students' strengths and needs. These are helpful in determining what areas students need intervention in.

Definition: Tests given periodically. These are usually more formal, and little to no student feedback is given.
