Human Sciences: Methods and Tools
theory
a theory usually consists of a set of explanations, while a hypothesis is a single testable statement.
quantitative research methods
laboratory experiments
correlational studies
field experiments
quasi experiments
natural experiments.
internal validity
Internal validity refers to the extent to which a tool of measurement measures what it claims to
correlational research
statistical technique and is therefore more than just a ‘relationship’. Correlations offer statistical evidence for descriptions and predictions about human behaviour, and measure these in terms of statistical significance
Correlations cannot establish causation – again, they only show whether two factors or variables are related.
Correlations do not show differences between variables – they show the extent to which two variables are related.
illusory correlation
exist between two related variables is not as immediately obvious as the examples above.
qualitative research methods
naturalistic observations
interviews
case studies.
