Health determinants
Local government and the NHS have important roles in building confident and
connected communities as part of efforts to improve health and reduce inequalities

the services within it, that are well networked and supportive and where neighbours
look out for each other, all have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing.

Social economic groups
While drinking in moderation has benefits particularly for cardiovascular disease, misuse of alcohol has repercussions in terms of high avoidable morbidity and mortality as well as adverse social consequences.
The Trust is committed to work with other agencies to promote sensible drinking in the population through a co-ordinated approach to identify alcohol associated problems - working with NHS Hertfordshire (PCT) and in partnership with Turning Point - and raise awareness of the problems associated with alcohol. Further work will be undertaken to monitor the demand for alcohol services and continue to identify gaps in provisions within the Acute Trust.
People drinking in moderation comes with some benefit in terms of cardiovascular diseases in particular while misusing alcohol results to repercussions when looking atunavoidable morbidity as well as mortality.

Education
Those who are poor and low level of education not benefit as much with the improvement of the behaviour which lead to pressure to the health service and widening inequalities.

These behaviours are also linked to high
cholesterol, obesity and overweight

People eating less fruits and vegetables, lack of taking part in physical activities had health issues

Alcohol-related admissions to hospital have grown by 17% over the last decade – in 2016/17 there were 337,000 estimated admissions – 2.1% of the total.
Alcohol Care Teams in Bolton, Salford, Nottingham, Liverpool, London and Portsmouth have already seen a reduction in A&E attendances, bed days, readmissions and ambulance call outs have significantly reduced.
Now expert teams will work in up to 50 hospitals across the country to deliver alcohol checks and provide access to health within 24 hours if problems are found including counselling, medically assisted help to give up drink and support to stay off of it.

Advice sessions last for 20–40 minutes and involves personalised feedback to people about their level of health risk because of alcohol consumption, practical advice about reducing alcohol consumption, with a range of options for change, and written information to support the advice.
The number of those who engage in some of the four unhealthy lifestyle behaviours has gone down as from 33% in 2003 to 25% of the population by 2008. The reductions are from those in higher social economics and education groups.
Drinking alcohol is often seen as a part of British culture but can pose a threat to health when consumed in quantities which are above the recommended guidelines. Over-indulgence can lead to physical, social and psychological health problems.
