Cells and Energy
Photosynthesis
Unlike humans and animals, plants and some unicelled organisms get energy from light.
Photosynthesis: a series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water, and CO2 into the food-energy molecule glucose and gives off oxygen.
Lights and Pigments
Photosynthesis requires light energy. One pigment in plants that absorb light is a chlorophyll. Absorbs all light except green. The green light is reflected as the color seen in the leaves.

Cellular Respiration
-
Cellular repiration:a series of chemical reaction that convert the energy in food molecules into a useable form of energy called ATP

Fermentation
When you exercise sometimes cells don't have enough oxygen to make ATP through cellular respiration. So chemical energy is obtained through fermentation.
Fermentation: a reaction that eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells can use to obtain energy from food when oxygen levels are low.

Types of Fermentation
-
Some types of bacteria and yeast make ATPs through a process called alcohol fermentation. Instead of making lactic acids alcohol fermentation produces an alcohol called ethanol and CO2.
