Diagnostic
A pre-assessment used to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a student. These are used to help plan according to the student's needs.
KWL: This form of assessment does not have to be graded. It allows you to see what the students already Know about the topic/unit, what they Want to learn during the unit, and eventually what they have Learned.
Pre-Test: These are test with information that will be learned throughout the unit. These will allow you to see where the students are at knowledge-able wise.
Interim/Benchmark
An assessment used to determine where a student is at with their learning. I.e. if they are on track to do well in the future.
State Testing: This is used to determine if the student has met the required learning for the grade year.
Spelling Test: This form of assessment can be used to determine if the student is meeting the required ability to spell for the grade level they are in.
Performance
A performance based assessment rather than one like a test, answering questions.
Act It Out: This form of assessment can be used with reading to act out the story or events that have happened.
Retell: Having the students retell a story or details of a historic event can be considered an assessment of comprehension.
