Process to help Struggling students
How to identify Struggling students
Data
Are their test scores lower than the rest of their peers?
Ability to focus
Can they keep eye contact with others?
Are they able to follow multi-step directions?
Is their focus significantly lower than their peers during instruction and work time?
Social Skills
Do they play well with other children?
Do they understand and react to others' emotions appropriately?
Can they communicate on a similar level as their peers?
How to help
Differentiation
Use individualized teaching methods to help the student progress
Meet with parents/guardians to gather more information and set a plan to work together
Notify admin, they come to observe
Child is evaluated
IEP/504 is made
Keep reassessing student and make adjustments as needed
If no disabilities are diagnosed, make a plan with the parents and student if appropriate. Discuss added differentiation and any other modifications you can make, keep reassessing and making changes when needed
